Soooo the 2 times StG residents tried to reform the schools / get an additional school in the southern part of the parish was all a ruse?

Yes, it was pulled anytime it gained traction. No real effort was made to lobby for the bill. The battle with the black caucus was red herring.

You act like the black caucus is ever going to support an ISD or honor their agreement. Obviously you would have to ignore the black caucus and go to Republicans and white Democrats around the state to make deals. That's how it works.

I legit believe you've been bamboozled and will be underwhelmed by the change. These are the same people that wanted to break away from BREC and pulled the bill from the legislature after BREC bought their properties. This is a fact, not an unsubstantiated rumor. Should have been a federal crime but in Louisiana they were celebrated for it and moved on to starting St. George.

Hilarious that you expect good results from that.

How many White/Walker/Browning/Rogillio properties will BREC have to buy at double market price once St. George is official?

Actually the governor appoints a few positions.
Then the state rep appoints some.
Then the state senator.
Then the metro council representative if it is more than one metro council representatives for the area.
All the politicians who represent the area will have a say in the initial government.

Pretty sure this is incorrect. The sitting Governor appoints interim Mayor and Council. I'm sure he may solicit input from some of those folks you listed, but that's up to him.

STG will likely submit a slate of people for him to choose from, but he's under no obligation to choose from them.

In theory the initial appointees are basically there to to formally call for elections to set the real first council elected by the citizens of STG.

Now, I guess JBE could appoint a bunch of shitheads and that appointed government could prolly do a little damage, but that would piss off alot of folks. JBE doesn't really have a dog in the fight and if he wants to run for Congress or Senate, the dude wants to make friends not enemies.

It’s hilarious that you think an ISD isn’t the original reason the StG effort even began. What’s even funnier is you think when it gets to a statewide vote that the state would say no.

I don’t even live in StG but if I move back to the greater BR area, the only way i would live in EBR would be in StG.

I also don’t get how you think Central and Zachary could somehow make it work yet a bigger area with a higher tax base somehow will fall flat on their faces.

Yet, here we are with a city and no ISD in sight.

You lack reading comprehension if that's your take-away. They absolutely can stand up on their own as a city. It just wont change much. I think the argument that SBR was neglected by Kip Holden is a dishonest one. The school board neglected SBR for sure, but the city-government did not.

Hard to get an ISD going when the mayor is battling the incorporation at every turn. Central got their ISD 2 years after forming the city. I would expect about the same timeframe for StG. Sit back and enjoy once they get it!

Sooo that's exactly why they want to get away from the EBR school board. Again, this whole incorporation effort began after the mayor and Barrow suggested that they would have a better chance at getting an ISD as a city. God knows neither one of them had the foresight to see that the residents would run with that suggestion.

Again, the incorporation has no impact on the ISD. They legally unrelated.

Central had to incorporate because of legal reasons. They had no choice. That doesn't apply to St. George because that requirement changed 15+ years ago.

You'd think you people would at least try to understand the legal mechanics behind this stuff. The organizers of St. George were more than happy to let everyone believe that it was still a requirement. They must have been ecstatic when a member of the black caucus incorrectly claimed that they needed to form a city because then they could quote the lie and have everyone believe it.

F that. A school system in St. George would lessen the attraction of the city I currently live in, thus lowering property values, and ultimately leading to a lesser school system.

Yeah, sure. You believe that if you want. What other legal advice do you get from Ragina Barrow?

When no one listens when you ask multiple times for something as simple as a school near their homes, you have to find a new way. Also, Barrow and SWB said that before StG ever looked to incorporate.

So you are admitting that the school system is soooo screwed up that they NEED the StG area to still keep an F rating? It's a good thing it's a statewide vote. Why would anyone outside of the city of BR not vote yes? They don't have a reason (although opposition will obviously play the race card again and run adds all over the state).

I would never believe anything Barrow or SWB said, unless is was SWB saying she will do more $300k studies. Their comments made someone dig deeper and decide that incorporation was a better option. Either way, the people spoke and StG passed. Get over it. StG is happening; the ISD will happen. Keep lying to yourself though.

You are very naive.

Not only was incorporation completely unnecessary, but I'm guessing the St. George organizers forgot to mention that you have to also get the parish-wide vote in order to get a school district. You know, the ones you alienated in order to get the city incorporated? Good luck with that!

SG + Zachary + Central is significantly less than half the parish.

Central schools are well positioned, btw. Not as well as Ascension Parish but still a good long-term outlook. Zachary is about to go on a decline. Denham and Walker are somehow getting trashier. We don't have as much traffic to deal with as LP and AP, and best of all: The SG ISD has no chance.

They didn't alienate the entire parish because incorporations have never been a parish-wide election. Place like Gardere were never going to vote in favor of an ISD rather they were included or not. Anyone that sends their kids to private school in BR have no reason to vote against the ISD for the parish-wide vote. The only ones that will disapprove of the ISD is NBR and white liberals that all think the incorporation is about race.
