No, you didn’t.

Snakes don’t charge people. They swam in your general direction. If they were “charging” you, they wouldn’t have turned away when they had you right where they supposedly wanted you.

oh okay, guy.

f any of this is true, it is likely that the snakes were diamondback water snakes (which are thick like a cottonmouth). Cottonmouths stand fast or retreat when they encounter something. Contrary to what you hear, they are not aggressive.

Diamondback water snakes are feisty as hell and are known to be pugnacious.

I've seen a hundred water snakes, and plenty of moccasins around Lake Martin.

These were moccasins.

But yet you came to this place to ask for advice on how to protect your girl from scary snakes?

Mocassions dont play. I had a buddy named earl in college toke him fishing out at big alabama one day. I was about 40 yards away on the bank when i saw the mocassion swimming right at him. I yelled earl you better get out of there you got a mocassion coming right at you. I guess he was by the nest or something but that thing came out of the water right where he was standing by then earl was in the car and ready to go If you dont believe those things dont charge your full of it. i also remember fishing with my dad as a kid and one trying to get in the boat with us. Some of you guys didnt grow up in the bayou obviously .

Your ignorance never ceases to amaze me. not only can they bite while swimming they can bite underwater. They actually take prey underwater.

I doubt they charged you.

I did see a rattlesnake swimming across that very lake.

This is all a metaphor. The OP had two big black snakes punk him in front of his ole lady.

I don't know why I am even responding to such nonsense, but anyway, I never asked how to protect my girl from scary snakes.

And if I were to pose that question, I am not sure how me knowing how to identify two different species of snakes has anything to do with me knowing the best action to take in the aforementioned situation.

Grew up in Pierre Part. My cousins used to tell me that to get me to swim in the bayous with them. I believed them for a while. Once I found out that was false I never got in the water again

It’s happened to me, cotton mouth’s are very aggressive. I’ve had one jump from the water up onto a boat and strike out several times before going back out of the boat into the water

there are two large water moccasins in the middle of the creek, with their heads raised out of the water, staring right at us. We stopped, and they immediately started swimming directly towards the canoe.

Screw that...not taking that chance. They damn sure can't bite me if I am hauling arse in the other direction though!

On a river and had one come at my canoe once. Thankfully my brother was carrying a .22 pistol and dispatched of him. Water moccasins are some bad dudes
