Got a call from State Farm. Possible identity theft?

Got a call from an unknown number. I figured it was spam, but I looked it up and it was from State Farm. I don't have a policy with them. I called them back and they said they had that number associated with someone else and they would remove it. Do I need to do anything to follow up and make sure this was an inadvertent error and not a case of identity theft? TIA.

Someone probably entered their number wrong and fatfingered yours in.
Or they put in a fake number when quote shopping so they wouldn't get harassed.

If you're worried about it, get your credit report.

If it was your cell number, they may have gotten off an old account. Someone may have had that number before you got it. I'd bet that they owe some money and SF is trying any info they have to contact them.

More than likely it was just someone hit the wrong key by accident when they were typing info into their computer. Or someone who was quote shopping gave a fake number to avoid being bothered if they didn't take the quote

I work for state farm. All the new agents have basically set up call centers and all these people do I cold call people all over the state and give quotes to them trying to sell them insurance. It was most likely one of them. Nothing to worry about
