How many have been hacked? 30k people die every year from regular car accidents. Will automation kill more than that?

Who said anything about people dying? I'm referring to hackers hacking into shipping vehicles and rerouting them to steal the goods. I know that these vehicles won't be unmanned, but there is still a possibility.

There is no way the American consumer will choose to get around slower in a driverless car over getting around faster in a regular car. I just don't see it.

If it means they can play on their phone, read, watch a movie, etc... it's easily understandable.

I just disagree with the timeline. Stuff like this, changing how we have driven over 100 years, won't occur as quickly as the article makes it sound. But I agree in 20 years it'll be fairly common.

ETA: Plus, if we truly turn into a completely automated car process, traffic will be so much more efficient that even at lower top end speeds you'll likely wind up where you're heading as fast as you do today.

Accidents will happen and it will set this all back quite a ways

You don't think they have tested this out? Majority of accidents are caused by other drivers. Not the automated cars.

There's already onboard computers that can pilot the ship. Traffic lights could also be hacked and so could air traffic control systems.

Not sure I see your point. there could be an"oh shite" button on these vehicles as well as remote tracking systems on the cargo ships and their containers.

On top of that shipping companies will be able to put eyes on their ships via satellite within 20 or 30 years. Then there's drones that could go around checking on shite and reporting back if they see any irregularities. Who fricking knows. There's a solution to every problem and it's not a matter of if, but when.
