And an additional 90 minutes stressed out behind the wheel of a car 5 days a week/ 50 weeks/year is a loss of 15.6 DAYS/YEAR! Do that long enough and you’re literally taking years off your retirement and life just sitting in a car waiting behind the daily 18-wheeler wreck.
That same scenario happens all over the country though. Plenty of people commute 45+ minutes to work one way.
The private school issue is simply a math problem for many. You might not enjoy your hour commute but you also might not also be able to afford 20k for 2 kids.

I can get from my driveway to mid city Baton Rouge in ~20 minutes. I can also get from driveway to mid city New Orleans in ~45 minutes.
And that's just going the flow of traffic, with normal traffic.
I'm failing to see where all the added stress is?

These numbers are 100% false even on the best of days. I have driven those stretches in every conceivable manner, at every conceivable speed, in every conceivable condition and time of day combination, and these numbers are not simultaneously plausible from any location in Ascension Parish.

You're still in South Louisiana.

So you moved away from Baton Rouge and all its negatives just to go to THE - WORST part of Prairieville for traffic? I hope you're working from home.

Wait. Really?
So you’re leaving the metro and now just going to drive further to get into town. It’s not like you’re leaving for a better city with new/improved amenities.

Bruh, it takes damn near 20 minutes just to get from Airline to I-10 on 73 during traffic times. Quit your clowning.
If there was no traffic, the 20 minutes to mid city BR (especially if you’re referring to the Essen Lane exit as mid city) is plausible if speeding tremendously, but 45 minutes down I-10 east will get you no further than MSY in Kenner in free-flowing traffic.

Not at all, at least to BR. It depends on when you travel.
I leave at 6a from Airline at Bayou Manchac and get to work near BRCC in 20 mins easily. Coming back around 4 it’s maybe 35 mins.
ETA: Airline to Florida route
The New Orleans part of his comment I find unlikely

6am on Airline wouldn’t be bad, but 90% of people are doing that commute a couple hours later when it’s a parking lot.

You moved to Prairieville....

quote:Bruh, I don't live on that side. I live by the intersection of Hwy 74 and Hwy 73. On a bad day (wreck on the interstate, wreck on Hwy 73 it will take me 15/20 minutes to get to I-10). Those days are WORST CASE SCENARIOS, and are few and far between. Most days, I'm on I-10 heading towards Baton Rouge from my driveway in a few minutes. Pay attention to the commute times on the traffic reports in the morning and evening (12 minutes to downtown on average). All of these super exaggerated traffic times that y'all give to paint this horrible picture is just not accurate. ESPECIALLY SO after they added a third lane all the way to Hwy 73.
Bruh, it takes damn near 20 minutes just to get from Airline to I-10 on 73 during traffic times.
Now am I going to lie and say traffic is not an issue? No way. But it's not the picture you're trying to paint of it taking years off my life and my retirement . And it's certainly not any more added stess to my life than it is to BR residents, I can assure you. Y'all aren't immune to that traffic stress either.
quote:bullshite. I don't know how to say any other way. bullshite. I will go to New Orleans at various times of the year, and will pay attention to that. I'm hitting the Spillway within 20 minutes or so. I can be PARKED within 45 mins to an hour tops, depending on traffic, in THE FRENCH QUARTER from my driveway. In fact, the last time I went to the French Quarter was fan fest for the National Championship, and was parked at right about 50 or some odd minutes from my driveway. I pointed that specific fact out to my wife about the convenience of the location of our home. That's going about 80 on the interstate, which is not at all unreasonable.
45 minutes down I-10 east will get you no further than MSY in Kenner in free-flowing traffic.
Again, my neighborhood is nearest the intersection of Hwy 74 and Hwy 73. Maybe you're going off times of when you lived in St. Amant.
I mean, I don't know how else to tell you I'm not lying?

You’re moving 30 minutes down the road......

Last 2 months, I have been leaving at 6am to head to NOLA from BR to a project. From garage to project, 80-90 minutes every time, 80 mph avg speed
I see traffic going in BR and looks the same leaving, so I am assuming leaving at 6am, all will be ok
