I'm 40 and just started taking online CM classes with LSU. If it helps your career, go for it. With the amount of online degrees available it's easier than ever to get a degree. ASU has a really robust online degree program. The selection of online degrees available at LSU is kind of disappointing.

I did at 44. Got a degree that would pay about 1/2 of what I'd been making. It was an insurance policy because the industry I work for was severely depressed and I had no work. Fortunately things revived about the time that I finished the degree. Was it worth it? - maybe for the experience; I enjoyed it and made new friends, and it really wasn't difficult at all. Financially - it wasn't worth it at all but it didn't cost much either.

Go for it.
