What's the point? Facts are Facts and opinions are opinions. I'm not just going to make up stats on the fly and pitch them to yall. I could say that 100% of pit bull attacks are the owner's fault, but if I don't have evidence to back it up it doesn't mean shite.
Fair enough.
Every day, we all make decisions concerning risks.
Maybe a business decision, maybe a consumer purchase, maybe a relationship issue, or a parenting decision.
Sometimes assigning numbers to a hard decision helps to quantify it.
Assigning numbers to the facts is the hard part, of course.
I'd be interested to see the OP assign numbers to the facts I mentioned. Never owning a dog would of course handicap his expertise, but who gives a shite anyway?

You're expecting too much of the four year old. Four is too young to learn and maintain that level of required responsibility.
The scenario does does not play out well in the short time for the child nor for the long term for the parents.
Honest advice: get rid if the dog and just chalk it up to experience. Far too much at risk. The dog can be replaced with another breed. The child cannot.

Incorrect. A Pit Bull is a Pit Bull. Classifying a Staffordshire Terrier as a Pit Bull is like classifying a Labrador Retriever as a Flat Coated Retriever. That's retarded. They share similarities, but they are not the same dog.
This is the most frustrating part about dealing with people who do not understand the origins of the breeds.
I understand that there are three different breeds, one of which has pit bull in its name and have slightly different physical characteristics. If you are a perfectionist and want people to use the term pit bull type dog that is fine. They are virtually identical and are lumped into the category of "pit bulls" because it is easier and 99% of america uses this term.

Generalizing violent dogs as Pits is ignorant and causes other breeds to suffer.
I assure you that this is not the case with me. I'm on your side on this battle. I have two pit bull type dogs, one that is probably more Staff. Bull terrier and one probably more am staff (both from the pound so not pure bred).

Did not read through this entire thread but I own a Siberian husky and a staffordshire. Sheis an amazing dog. May play a little ruff for a 4 year old. Will not eat him but may scratch him up; they are very strong. They also can develop a tendency to dislike other dogs.
Great dog to own if cared for properly, but idk if I'd recommend a 4 year old raising it. :yikes:

Uh, they all held the pit nickname at one time. APBT isn't even a recognized breed by the AKC because of this, they are put in the Am Staff category. They don't want to emphasize the Pit Built/Bull/Bear baiting origin of the breeds.

Not sure if you are being coy or not but that is a pit bull.
