Got my chimney pipe live cam on. I'm not Catholic but I've always been fascinated by the process and pageantry of electing a new pope. I do hope the pendulum swings to the right some.

Perhaps not you, but there are 1.4 billion or so practicing Catholics in the world and a not insignificant percentage of the 1.4 BILLION believe he is God's representative on Earth. This man with the votes of around 100 other men will immediately ascend to the head of one of the most powerful organizations in the world.

Might want to pay attention...

I mean, any batpised Catholic man can be Pope, but in reality? 4 or 5 The 2 front runners won't be elected. I doubt the African or Filipino will be chosen. It's going to be someone known but not very well known.

I think the adage is "Enter Conclave as Pope and leave as a Cardinal."

They vote in the morning and afternoon right? When will the first vote be released by smoke?

2 Votes in the Morning and 2 in the Evening.

But there's only 1 vote the first day.

I think they traditionally do one afternoon vote on the first day and up to four votes each day after. So it's approaching late afternoon in Rome so the first vote should be coming soon.

IIRC, the first vote is normally just to take the temperature of the room, but they did accidentally elect a pope that no one wanted.

Bascially, everyone liked this particular cardinal but did not want him as Pope. So when asked to just throw out a vote, a lot voted for their buddy.

Considering the last Pope was in a wheelchair I doubt not very many will be running anywhere

How were the winds?

Stayed Inshore all day and they were fine. Up till noon it was completely flat which I hate. After lunch it picked up. Caught some trout early then went on a search for white bait but could only find threadfins. I hate using them but that was all I could find. I miss the best tide by a hour or so looking for bait. so the snook had pulled out of the mangroves and got around the grass beds. Just spreaded them out but we got some huge blow ups on the threads and had some fun.

Was on a flat around 11 oclock and tarpon were swimming right beside the boat moving up against the tide. I swear that some of those things were 8 feet long. Ive never seen them that big come a food from the boat in crystal clear 3 feet of water.

I've been following the updates on the Catholic Channel on XM and they have started a temporary radio show until the new pope is elected. The name of the show is "Holy Smokes"

There will be only one ballot on the first day. It is basically a vote to get a read on things. If no pope is selected today, starting tomorrow there will be two ballots held in the morning and then two in the afternoon.

They will continue to hold multiple ballots every day until a new pope is elected. Many expect this should be a quick process but due to all of the new cardinals and many not knowing each other, electors such as Cardinal Dolan have said they would not be surprised if this extends into the weekend.

Is this the official thread?

Surely we can start a real conclave thread without the hermit old timers in it

Sounds like yall ended up having a great time, I fish the Keys during Spring Break and saltwater fishing is still a complete mystery to me with catching your own bait but we did end up fishing inshore a little bit around the mangroves with a little bit of success.

I am assuming that you cast net for the baitfish?

I mean...nothing really to talk about. We just watch a seagull on a roof until they burn some ballots.
