Sorry about your Dad. Let me tell you that last March my Mom (then 91) took a fall in church and broke her left hip. When I went down to see her in April I told my siblings, “she’s not getting out of this hospital, she’s a goner.” Well, Nostradamus, I ain’t.
She can no longer live alone, but she turned 92 last month; lives in a senior facility (not assisted living, or nursing facility she has her own apartment); and is enjoying life. I hope the same for your Dad.

Thanks, Iona. He’s 86 and lives with my brother and SIL and she is his caregiver. She feels so guilty because she felt like she wasn’t watching him.
Seriously, her just was going to bed and turned to shut the door, fell and broke his hip. I guess that’s what happens when you get old.
Getting old ain’t for the weak.

My paw paw is in a nursing home now. he was sharp as a tack for 86 years and in the space of two weeks he doesnt know us anymore and has gotten combative and hard to be around. I don't want to live that way or leave people with that memory of me.
