Stupid people will not be able to maintain their pools. People who have seen bleach and can do simple math will be able to maintain their pools in the absence of said tablets.

Honestly how is this done? The benefit of a tablet is the time release, liquid id think would have to be added more regularly? My parents throw a tablet in their skimmer like every day or 3, I’d think you may have to add liquid more regularly to maintain it?

Check out troublefreepool.com they have a huge forum and knowledge base, focus on simple chemicals to maintain pools. The pucks have other ingredients in there, metals, and cyuranic acid. Any of the pool calculators will have bleach as an option, you just input your starting level and desired level. I have a saltwater pool, but depending on cya level, 20 ounces a week is probably what’s needed to maintain a pool.

I bought a gallon of some off brand Mexican bleach at Home Depot this week called chloraline for 2.45

You have to measure the volume of the pool with this equation to see how many gallons are in it.,.. base x height x width. We call it math. Most chlorine products tell you how many gallons its treats and for how long.

You could get crazy and get a $20 water tester and use that to see what you need.

I read a thread like this and went to Leslie’s pool supplies so that I could be a part of the panic. There was no shortage of chlorine tablets and pool shock there. Even though I had plenty of remaining tablets at home, I wanted to do my part for the shortage, so I bought a large container of tablets. Should be good for the next year.

Chlorine tabs are made of trichlor, not standard cal hypo (granular shock) or sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach). And they have cyanuric acid in them as well which prevents the chlorine from being diluted from the sun. You can definitely keep your pool from going green without tabs, but its going to take a lot of liquid chlorine. Especially in Louisiana/Texas.

Not sure where you live but you’re lucky and should buy as much as possible. Your leslies will be bone dry soon. The huge service companies are buying in large quantities from all the available sources.

Granular and liquid will not be a problem. Trichlor is the issue.
