Heard about that on the radio.

Yeah, Wilder Penfield developed a similar procedure in the 30's called the Montreal Procedure to identify the location of epileptic aura sites so they didn't remove the wrong brain tissue. The fact that you can electrically stimulate the brain on an awake person and influence their behavior is pretty amazing.

Completely painless, actually. The brain doesn't have pain (or any other sensory) receptors like the skin so the patient doesn't feel the surgery at all once the skull has been removed.

Interesting.
I figured cutting into her head would have to hurt.

With current procedures, it looks like they use local and general anesthetics and only a small subset of patients report "mild pain".

Course the video is when she's tuning up and not doing covers on Undertale.

It was NPR. I’m way too high brow for Reddit.

Guy walks into a Doctor’s office complaining of an elbow problem.
Doctor examines him and recommends surgery.
“Doctor, will I be able to play the violin after the operation?"
"Yes, I see no reason why not.”
“Great! I never could before!”
