I had a house in Mid-City BTR. One of the previous owners of the house died on the property, but no idea where exactly (in the house, outside, in the bathroom, no clue). I'm not a big ghost believer, I'm pretty much indifferent and I'm fairly mechanically inclined and science oriented so I can usually figure out noises and the such.

I'm sitting in my living room leaned back in the recliner and was in the process of aiming the remote control at the TV to change the channel. The TV was against the wall that had the doorway in it that lead to the hallway that lead to the bedrooms. The living room light was on, the hallway light was on, and the kitchen light was on. And, the TV was on, so not like it was spooky time or anything.

As I went to change the channel, the hallway light goes out followed by a loud SNAP!! I see NOTHING else but the light go off. I sat in my chair and like others have mentioned, the freaking hair on my neck stands up and I swear the living room dropped 10 degrees. We've all seen a bulb go out. Nothing creepy about it..but for whatever reason, my body said Fight or Flight. Eventually, after sitting there wondering what the frick, I reluctantly get up and walk into the hallway to investigate. First thing I do is turn the switch back on. Hair still standing on my neck. Light comes back on. So, it wasn't a bulb that burned out and it was a single bulb. So, it wasn't one of the two bulbs burned out. The switch wasn't hot or even warmer than normal. Nothing abnormal at all about it other than its age.

There were two old original light switches in the house, the bathroom had a push-button style switch and the hallway had a thick HEAVY sprung regular style flip up (on) flip down (off) switch. It was in the down position. When I say heavy, it was noticibly hard to flip on and off. You had to purposefully use that light switch compared to the modern switches in the house. You couldn't just walk by and casually flip it on.

So, I figured it must have somehow been positioned half way on and the heavy spring eventually with the help of gravity, snapped it down. Except, despite NUMEROUS attempts over the next few minutes and many other attempts during the remaining years at the house, I couldn't get that damn switch to hang up in the middle. The spring was just too strong. It was either ON or OFF. To try and get it to stay in the middle or even near the middle was impossible. I could get all of the other light switches in the house (except the bathroom because it was a button) to stay in the middle. But not the hallway light switch. ALSO, if you held it in the middle and let go, it wouldn't SNAP like it did when you flipped it all the way up or down. It only made a snap noise if you went the full stroke. Half-way made a duller thunk than a snap. And that SNAP noise was clear as day when it happened.

Now, I'm no electrician, but I can't think of an electrical explanation of how 120v AC could flip that switch even if overloaded with amperage. Nothing else in the house flickered or indicated any surge that could flip that heavy switch.

Over the years many other odd things happened in that house (pot rack fell from ceiling, items would disappear then re-appear in an obvious place but clearly out of place, sounds of footsteps in our 3 foot high attic). Most I could up with a rational reason. Kids, forgetfullness, pot rack spinning from the AC blowing on it and eventually it comming unbolted. Not sure about the attic...those heavy footsteps were creepy as hell. We had mice, but they scratched on walls, they didn't walk on joists like a 160 lb person. And that light switch had me scratching my head. Still does. I sat that in that chair for probably 2 full minutes before I got up the courage to investigate. Was it a ghost?..I want to doubt it, but I have no other idea how that light was turned off. If it was a ghost, why the frick would you turn off a light? Seriously, what an odd way to frick with someone. Why not hit me with some morse code if you can flip lights on and off? I have no answers. Only questions.

Hard to say about the electrical switch w/o being able to inspect it, but I agree it's an odd one. But I'm not ready to jump to 'supernatural' as an explanation.

Could be expansion and contraction. I was at my daughters house, in the basement having a beer with my Son-In-Law, and I hear this very regular tick-tick-tick. Later it's gone. 20 minutes later, it's back again.

I get very curious, finally track it down to the PVC exhaust on their high efficiency (sealed combustion) furnace. When the heat came on, that PVC pipe expanded, and it was rubbing on a cross beam. I observed a couple cycles of this, then just slipped a piece of shiny cardboard under it, and the noise stopped.

Houses are made up of many parts and they can interact in mysterious (but not likely 'supernatural') ways.

This story reminds me of a haunted camp I stayed at in grand isle. Friend(owner), there alone, was in a lazy boy with his back arse to the hall way. He clearly hears foot steps coming up the hall way. He flipped out. Drove back to Morgan city. A few other things happened. Now this is where it gets weird for me. They bring in “experts”. They trapped this thing in a vase. Then put it on top the kitchen cabinets. I stayed the night over there and slept in the pull out. I woke up about 5:30 and it sounded like plates were banging each other in the cabinets.
