I said it in the op I don't mind paying a fine. I just want to know if there's any way to get it talked down from $300.

(5) In addition to such fine, the violator may also be required to pay the towing fee and any storage costs which are incurred.

tl/dr: You're screwed. Ignorance of the law is not a defense. Failure to adhere to no parking in a handicap spot without a handicap license doesn't give you a whole lot of wiggle room.

It's funny send a kid to college and they cannot figure out blue parking spots are for handicap people.
Let's ask ourselves before we park in a spot that is blue and has a handicap sign.
1. Do I have a handicap tag or place card for my vehicle?
2. Can I afford to pay the fine or willing to pay the fine if caught?
If the answer is no to both questions do not park in the spot!
Since you did you were willing to take a chance on getting caught and you got caught now pay the fine!
How hard is that.

Handicap zone tickets never get reduced. I think the fines are closer to $ 375. My guess is that you will never park in a handicap zone again - which is the reason they do not reduce them.
