Probably returned the most expensive bottle of booze they had 500 times

I assumed it was a grill or ceramic planter or something expensive like that.

Major inventory triggers like that will flag too because the kind of people that steal inevitably get lazy.

Even with a grill, what is the most expensive thing that will be at an average grocery store? Even one with an Ace in it?

My local Rouse’s / Ace probably has a Green Egg as the most expensive piece of merchandise which doesn’t involve buying construction equipment and that’s about $700.

So you pull the tag off one and scan it, go to the "enter quantity" screen and set it at 125 or whatever the max item count on the register is.

$700 grill x 125 = $87,500 in one transaction, only takes 15 seconds.

Even a shite inventory system will eventually notice you took returns of 120 more grills than you even have in stock.

Needs to a 5-10 people from Kroger fired. Only 1 or 2 of them from that store. If your accounting is this sloppy then heads need to roll on district and corporate level.

Supposedly the grocery business is super competitive and low margin but obviously high volumes. $980,000 is that type of business sticks out if anyone is paying attention.

That store manger should have been fired immediately!

How do you not notice that much money going missing?

You want to go under $100, probably under $75, and put it back on a gift card. Never do more than 1 per week and never spend the gift card yourself. Trade the gift cards for cash to your friends and relatives, but don't offer them for sale on fb marketplace or Craigslist.

Caught an employee doing exactly this several years ago. He didn't realize the amount of money going into the bank from credit card transactions wouldn't add up, and he also did two transactions over $1000. The craziest thing is the police didn't even understand that he stole any "actual money" (their words), I had to explain to them that at the end of the day the amount of money deposited in our account by the credit card processor was $2500 short.
