It's unfortunate that you had a doctor that either was incompetent or just didn't care about your kid. Just like in every profession, there are some doctors who are greedy and dishonest. I'm glad you found someone who you're happy with now.

I should be able to be treated by whoever I want, the doc should be able to charge whatever he wants, and the insurer can pay the doc whatever they agree on.

that works a million times a day for car insurance repairs, and I don't see how it wouldn't work for medical treatment.

I work with docs, payments, and provider agreements every day. I see and know what the payment and reimbursement issues for docs are. They are ridiculous and something fundamental in the current process needs to change. Both docs and patients/insureds are fricked as it is now.

I know my theory won't work in the current environment, a-hole. But unless and until docs and medical societies get their shite together and start forcing change nothing will change.

I have one; When you wait until the end of the appointment, then say "Oh by the way ______________ has been bothering me as well" we want to rip your head off of your shoulders.

The funniest thing I ever heard working in medicine was when a patient (multiple patients actually) claimed they were allergic to nitrous.

If I attempted to pin you down on a number, what is a real world cash price for your time?

No claim. No insurance. Office visit. I don't think anybody can give a number. Let's say a 20 minute exam and visit.

Let me enter this into the equation. Medical liability insurance costs at the low end 6000 a year to 80k a year for some specialties. Docs pay nurses who dont bill. They pay insurance clerks who earn no revenue. They pay staff to write letters and fill out forms for you who generate no revenue. Tricare pays maybe $17 for an office visit. They provide vaccines. That costs the doc. Docs provide other meds they pay for. Why dont we want a carrot on the end of stick to encourage smart people to become docs? Do u guys work for free? Do u want socialism medicine? U bitch now about wait times. See how long u wait in canada and europe!!! Mri's in europe u may wait 4 months if non emergent. We have it good. Can be better but uncle sam has too many stupid rules.

As I tell the docs and managers I speak to:"if it makes business sense, it's probably illegal"

I have a fee schedule in my office with a cash price for everything I can possibly bill for...exam, testing, procedures, surgeries.

Agreed. But our system is for profit for most part. Hospitals get stuck with indigent expenses therefore people with means pay for themselves and others. Strains the system. If u can
Pay here in US can get mri in one day. Lawsuits cause defensive medicine. More ct scans. More labs. More antibiotics. Everything askew; but we still should not complain for waiting in the office. That was my point. Costs exaggerated by regulations and bureaucracy. Gotta prevent fraud but emr's are expensive for backbone generalists. That is why ochsner owns everything it seems. Vicious circle.

Stop making me fill out the same damn paperwork every damn time I visit your office. You don't have the shite i filled out 3 months ago?

This doesn't happen.

Stop making me wait in the lobby reading some old arse sports illustrated well past my appointment time because you are finishing your early morning round of the front nine at the local golf course.

Neither does this.
quote:

How about you stop charging $200 for a sling, splint or boot that I can get at Walgreens for $20.00.

Neither does this. But even if it did, if you paid 10x more for an identical product, whose fault is that?
quote:

Stop pushing me out the door when I'm trying to discuss my overall health with you.

So, it's OK for other people to have to sit in the waiting room reading the old arse sports illustrated well past their appointment time, just not you?
quote:

Stop making me pay for an office visit so you can renew my annual prescription for allergy medicine.

This is the only legitimate point you made. Although there are real reasons for you to have to see a physician to renew seemingly harmless meds.

Their are plenty of other intelligent people in other career fields.

Of course there are, but they can't do my job just like I can't do theirs.

I work in the medical field. A couple of years ago I was bringing my daughter to her appointment. On the way I got a flat tire. I called them to tell them that I was going to be late. They told me that if I was more than 20 minutes late I would have to reschedule. I said "every time I go to an appointment at your office I wait over an hour to be seen but if I'm 20 minutes late I have to reschedule? That makes no sense to me at all". She got pissy with me after that. Long story short I changed pediatricians the next day.
