Its all about governance and being able to attract skilled workers.

whoever finally figures out "next-generation" batteries is going to be a very rich person.

Already on the horizon. Structural batteries, supercapacitors, micro reactors...

but in reading the info - if they are building the plant close to the assembly location of the vehicles, the batteries will supply, it only makes sense to locate it there - the money saved having to ship the batteries from out of state to the plant is really a better incentive.

They should have gone with Knoxville where the Tennessee River is already heavily polluted and no one would notice the extra runoff.

Louisiana should have a shot at plants like this. But both GM and Tesla have avoided the state so far.

We elect stupid politicians that don’t promote Louisiana as a place to do business. That’s never going to happen unless we have a major reversal in leadership

But this board had many posters that said EV wasn't viable. Surely GM would listen to them and not waste $2.3b

LMAO, you think someone wants a battery plant in their back yard? You can't even make methanol from CO2 and Natural Gas without the locals losing their shite. They don't want jobs along that river, they want to be mad, jobless, and paid to sit on their arse. They wake up in the morning and wipe chemicals off their windshield!! What the rest of know as dew. Environmental justice mother fricker!!

Seriously, some clown will make thousands getting the locals riled up and opposing the permitting. The local rebel rouser will get paid, the permit will be issued, the plant will be operational and thousands of poor dumb people will be misinformed and remain jobless.

Welcome to progress provided by progressives.

What local leaders need to tell the locals is, QUIT DOING frickING DRUGS, get some education, get hired by the battery plant, make lots of money, get health care, retire with a million or more in the bank, improve the life of your family.

But no...they are lied to and told they will die from pollution. Meanwhile, local itchy palm could be pressuring the industry to make some real concessions like supporting HS programs to prepare more locals to work at said battery plant. NAWWWWWWWWWW...that palm is just too itchy.
