most small businesses in this country operate on a slim margin month by month. In the last 2 months they’ve had minimum or no income, while still having to pay employees and for their lease. (largest expenses)

even if they take the loan from the feds, there’s no promise their pre-COVID-19 revenue will just automatically resume at the end of the what 3 months the loan is for. (I may be wrong on the loan length)

I didn’t exaggerate anything. I replied to a post about them keeping the economy closed down into the “distant future”. If you’re stupid enough to think the economy would not completely collapse if we did that then all I can do is tell you to keep voting Democrat.

Who knows the rate of which small businesses will survive. It’s certainly scary for each and every one of them. We need them ALL to come back, small business embody the American dream and spirit.

So you're standing by "nothing will be around to reopen", comment?

Nothing?

Exactly. Roughly half the working population of this country work for a small business. How many of those small businesses will survive if we open the economy in the “distant future”? And what will result from the loss of all those small businesses?

Certainly some will close temporary, some will close permanently...others wont....then there will be some that re open under new ownership.....new businesses will emerge..

Darth's statement about there wont be anything left to reopen is just an overreaction that a woman on Facebook would make

We have the greatest economy in the world.....it will take some time but we will rebound granted we get things going by Memorial Day......even with a soft opening until August....this country and economy is too strong.

I doubt it will be early May like people are hoping for. Inslee is now pushing a "preventable deaths" talking point about how we can't ease up on the current restrictions, and the head of IHME (which these states all rely on) was on CNN over the weekend saying that we CANNOT reopen in May.

King County released these parameters for removing "some" restrictions over the weekend. I bet Newsom releases something similar tomorrow:

quote:

When it appears safe, Public Health will be looking at the following indicators to help inform the timing and approach for the gradual relaxing of one or more social distancing measures:

A steady decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations for at least two weeks;
Healthcare system readiness, including sufficient staffing, supplies, and bed space, to be able to accommodate the increase in cases we expect to see when we loosen social distancing measures;
Widespread availability of rapid testing and reporting of results, beyond what is currently available, so people who are infected can take quick action to slow the spread of COVID-19;
Capacity to conduct widespread case and contact investigations to quickly identify people who are infected and their close contacts and help them isolate and quarantine;
Availability of proven COVID-19 treatments, which are currently under evaluation.

We have the greatest economy in the world.....it will take some time but we will rebound granted we get things going by Labor Day......even with a soft opening until August....this country and economy is too strong.

You’re a complete idiot if you think we can go like this until Labor Day. The unemployment rate by then will blow past anything seen in the Great Depression. In just the first three week over 16 million have lost their job. Even with federal help to make payroll, small business owners can’t keep their head above water for what you’re proposing, namely 5-6 months of shutdown. Hard to reopen a business when you’re flat broke.

Not to mention unemployed people don’t do things like buy houses, cars, phones, electronics, go out to eat, go on vacation, etc. These markets are already feeling the effect of the shutdown. And you want them to do it until Labor Day? That’s the most stupid thing I’ve ever seen you post. And that’s saying something.

We shut the economy down in mid March. If we stay the way we are now until August, that means we have shutdown the economy for at least five months. If we got until Labor day it’s right at six months.

Now tell me what do you think the economy would look like after almost six months like we are doing now?
