I always replace mine every 2-3 years when the GD odor wafts through the kitchen.

when mine gets funky, I just dump in a glass or two of ice cubes...let that sand blast the inside of the thing for a while and then flush it down with water...problem solved...

Poor liquid soap down it constantly while running the hottest water and with the disposal on.

Did the same thing in my apt. Worked for me.

It's the shite on the underside of the plastic guard that smells. Mold and what not. You got to scrub that.
