Owning a funeral home is a lucrative business. No shortage of business. Ever. Anywhere.

The Abby goes for 1700.00

The Monastic style is ~$1,700 before tax. They also sell a more ornate style that is about $2,200. When my father died in 2008 I believe we paid about $1,000 or $1,100 for a Monastic casket. I can't remember if that included sales tax or not. When my mom died in 2017, the same style casket cost $600 or $800 more. I know the Abbey flooded in 2015, but I'd imagine the increase is more related to legal fees and market demand, rather than uninsured flood damage.
The funeral homes just raise the price of their services to cover the profit they're not making from selling as many caskets.

I just did this for my father. I'd rather buy a used car every day for the rest of my life then have to go through that again.
BS fees on top of BS fees. Turning the gas on and burning his body costs about $100 including labor. Add $50 for a decent wooden box and another $200 to dig a very small hole and there you have it. It ended up costing him over $7K and he already owned his plot

Just get cremated and apparently Europeans have started liquifying corpses or some shite like that.
Grave sites are a waste real estate.

I've heard that he jumped into Normandy with the 82nd Airborne on D-Day and that he officiated JFK's funeral, but never that he was a huge pedophile. Interesting.

If Big Lee wasn't buried in it, you can pick up that LSU casket he had on the cheap at the Big Lee Memorial Yard Sale this weekend.

I did that a few weeks ago. Lady I worked with was very nice and informative. I had called around and discussed pricing and requirements with others prior to going to see her.
Basic bare bones cremation $1600 for everything. Everything being they go get the body, get the “coroners permit”, provide the louisiana law minimum container to put you in, burn it and give ashes to whomever you choose. Included tax and ten death certificates.
In louisiana the only way to prepay it seems is to buy an insurance policy describing details. It does lock the price in and guarantees your getting what you want at a minimum.

I think Costco sells them, too.

I'm having my body donated to science. The funeral industry is a fricking racket.

Your family gets what's left after they're finished with you. Well, that's what I have heard tell. Could be inaccurate.

Sounds like the casket "salesman" was trying to strong-arm him.
Sounds like that frick needs to end up in a casket himself.

It's just absurd that it costs so much money to simply die. It's absolutely a racket.

My Grandfater had his casket custom built. He wanted a pine box wide at the elbows. My Grandmother sternly refused to allow him to store it under their bed! He had to keep it at his office. I was in the 3rd grade and I really don't have memories of the casket, but I do have pictures of him standing next to it! PS: he lived in East Texas!

My dad bought his old Summer home in Terra Mariae.
The master bedroom had a secret tunnel that went from the closet, across the house’s attic, to the apartment above the garage where guests would stay.
shite you not.

The gov't regulates the shite out of funeral homes. Funeral homes also have a shite ton of overhead to cover. Not to mention all the paupers that stick them with the bill.
Add all that up and you have an expensive disposition.
