Ft. Benning Armor Restoration Facility

I have always had an interest in WW2 armor. I had a really cool opportunity to visit the Ft. Benning armor restoration workshop back in 2018. For someone who loves WW2 armor, it was like being in heaven. This facility is in the process of restoring all of the historic armor the army has saved to display at the US Army Armor Museum at Ft. Benning.
Here are a couple of shots of a Tiger 2 that's been cut away so you could see the full insides and a picture of a couple of Panthers they had sitting undercover waiting for their turn in the shop.
Panthers
And a picture looking through the aisle down the middle of the workshop. You can see a couple of WW1 tanks on the right.
And another down the aisle shot
This is some damage from incoming rounds on a Jagdtiger
US Experimental Heavy Tank in the middle.

Was it staffed by mostly retired vets? I did an internship at triumph Aerostructures and they had a restoration shop for old planes mostly worked on by retired employees. They'd come in and work when they could. They had some cool stuff in there. Even an old pancake bomber.

It sucks that Tiger 2 got cut like that.

Dang, I’ve spent a decent amount of time TDY there over the past few years and never knew that was there. Would’ve attempted to poke my head in had I known(if it’s even possible). On a side note, the National Infantry Museum is a good way to kill a few hours for anyone that stumbles through Columbus.
