Nissans have way too many mechanical issues

Family has driven Nissans for 30 years and we've only had one mechanical issue on a Sentra.

The Colorado by a country mile.

They are not building as many as the Silverado...at least not yet. They are made in the same factory that builds the full sized commercial vans, which are also selling rapidly right now. They've had to add a third shift to keep dealers supplied.

You might not have but one or two options to choose from at your local dealer. Smaller dealerships may not have any Colorados.

From what I understand, GM is very pleased with the average transaction prices of those trucks and the consumer demand for them.

CVT problems make this vehicle a tricky proposition.

At present they are Tennessee-built, I think I read they will be building some in Japan. I do not know if they are destined for the U.S. market. If so, I'd be more comfortable with one of those vehicles.

It's insane that only the GMC has an automatic transfer case.

Also, this shifter is straight out of a 90's Pontiac. Why can't GM get right on their interiors?

When your company is coming out of near bankruptcy and has to pay millions of dollars to fix numerous recalls and injury settlements due to poor engineering and negligence, you have to cut costs anyway you can.

I own a 2013 Frontier and while I haven't put more than 15,000 miles on her, she's been good to go so far.

From a reliability standpoint, Nissan has supposedly fixed the issues that plagued the previous years. Time will tell if that is true, but then again, any car and truck purchased today has the potential to give you problems.

Colorado/Canyon are in their first year back on the market after being absent for several years, so consider it a 1st model year and expect there to be some kinks that need to get ironed out.

As far as value, I picked up my 2013 Frontier 4wd CC with 10k miles on it for $24k; couldn't find a price close to that on a Tacoma 4wd anywhere. And if the Canyons/Colorado's are selling for $35-40k new. .

Good luck

I bought a Crew Cab V-6 GMC Canyon in January for less than $30k (w/out tax). It's an SLE with cloth interior, the mid-grade radio package, Lane Assist and the HUD warning option. I don't personally drive it, but it's getting 24+ MPG in mixed use. The same driver formerly had a full-sized pick-up (C-1500) 5.3L in the same application and was getting 17-18 mpgs.
