I haven’t been able to work on the model for about a month now. It’s in the final stretches and is a test bed for exhaust staining. I never could get that right with oils/powders/etc, so I tried airbrushing it. I had just gotten a new airbrush with a much smaller needle, so I figured I’d give it a try. The exhaust isn’t finished, I need to add a little light gray to replicate that high octane stuff. My pictures really don’t show it, but I’m happy with it. The black is Mr Color’s GX101 Clear Black heavily thinned with Mr color Leveling Thinner.

Next is final assembly and the sealant coat.

So , I’ll start a little survey on what to build next - let’s start with a wide topic and drill down from there: armor, WWII planes, or modern jets. From there, we will break it down further. Enjoy

Have you done an A-10?

How about some variations of the P-40, like Tomahawk and Kittyhawk compared to the several US versions. Earlier P-40's have a different radiator, might make for some unique variations of the nose art.

P-47 C or D Razorback vs later D, M, or N, maybe pencil vs paddle prop

FW-190 radial vs Dora. TA-152 if you can find it.

Does anyone ever do a Curtis Hell Diver or a Brewster Buffalo, maybe with the Finnish markings? Or maybe P-36, the unloved planes of the war.

Edit: YF-23

I do have a P-40 in stash and also a P-47 D bubble top. And FW190A-8, D-9 , and D-13.

Seems as if you are WWII fan. One vote for that era.

In an old edition of Jane's Fighter Aircraft of World War 2 there is an awesome color photo of an FW-190 in action at low altitude and high speed in a camo scheme like the one below, but more vivid. It is flying over what looks like desert and the camo blends is great with the background, the photo is from above.

IF I ever find it, I'll send it. I don't have the book.

Great work on the exhaust! Which manufacturer is this kit?

My vote is armor. I personally have a pattern I try to stick to when deciding my next built. First, if I just finished an airplane, my next build will be armor. Second, if the subject I just finished was an allied aircraft or vehicle, my next will be Axis. Finally, I look at the nationalities I’ve built recently and try to pick one that’s it’s been a while since I’ve done.

I’ve seen a 109 in the desert scheme that looks freaking awesome. I have one of those kits, too

My model choosing is that I alternate between armor and aircraft. I am just about finished with a British Matilda tank with the caunter camouflage scheme of the north african theater circa 1940-41.

Yes sir. I gave Eduard’s 1/48 BF109E-9 in that same livery. There’s one of the reasons for the new airbrush

Thanks, Darth. It’s the old Acurrate miniatures kit. The same one I showed yall with the painted markings using the masks - there are no decals on this model.

The one before this was the M-48 I built.

One vote for armor - right now I have two armor kits in the stash: both are Rye Field Miniatures kits, a 1/35 Tiger and a 1/35 Abrams

We have one for armor and one tot WWII birds

Can’t wait to see it. BF-109 and FW-190 camouflage can be tricky to do because it’s so random with little blotches and the fuselage is so small. One trick I discovered was to take a piece of white paper and trace out the fuselage then use my x-acto knife to cut out the pattern based on the painting instructions from the kit. I then use that as a stencil to paint the pattern on the airplane. Here’s how the last one turned out.

Cool. I’m working on the Accurate Miniatures 1:35 scale Ilyushin IL2-M3 Stormovik right now.

Here’s the process and progress thus far…

Last thing I did today was assemble the landing gear. And left it as you see it in the last pic to set overnight I’m a bit worried about the landing gear. It’s not a good design and I’m afraid it might collapse. I glued the ever-loving shite out of it though so hopefully it holds up. I won’t be able to work on it again until at least next weekend, so I’ll have to wait and see.

Awesome work!! Is that an aftermarket cockpit? The plastic appears to be a different color. Damn good work!

Thanks. It’s actually the cockpit that came with the kit.

And speaking of the kit, what’s your opinion of Accurate Miniatures? I’ve found this one to be alright, but with a few issues. Overall the fit of the parts has been fine, though not up to the standard of Tamiya who I consider the industry standard. And I’m not a fan of the instructions, but that might be more of me not being use to how they lay them out. But my biggest gripe is their sprues. They don’t have them organized by a lettering system and it seems parts spread out randomly among them. Despite all this though it hasn’t been a bad build, but my opinion might change completely when I flip it over to see if the landing gear will actually hold.
