So I'm about to buy a new french door fridge in the $1500-$2000 range. Per search and Napoleon's older recs, I was looking at a Maytag 24.7ft^3 unit. I was pretty set on this, but I just found an LG 26.8ft^3 on sale for the same price. Main differences as far as I can tell are the obvious increase in capacity, and the LG has an in door ice maker with smaller capacity. My question is does anybody have any bad things to say about LG fridges in this price range?

Thanks all knowing OT.

We've had our LG fridge about 4 years. Overall we're happy with it but it does have a few quirks.

The door in door shelving pulls away from the door a bit if we put something heavy in there.

The in door ice maker has stopped working twice but there's a reset button that takes care of that.

It's not loud enough to be annoying but it is louder than our previous Kitchen Aid.

We tried to get LG out for a service call about the door in door shelving and could never get it done. I've read similar complaints about LG's customer service.

We have LG fridge, microwave and washer and dryer and so far we haven't had any problems with them. I wouldn't go out and search for LG products specifically but if reviews are good and the product is in my budget I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

Sweet, thanks man. The particular model I'm looking at has very positive reviews and a lot of them. I figure even amongst brands various models could differ in quality or build.

I do like the idea of an in door ice maker just because it frees up space in the fridge itself.

LG uses a new fangled linear compressor and the seals seem to fail around 5 years out. They warranty the compressor for eight years but it's still nearly $500 in labor to install one.

I see about one LG fridge a month with a no cool issue, when I install taps to check pressure I have an equal high and low side.

Right now LG and GE are two brands I would avoid for fridges.

Damn, thanks. Would you still recommend going with Maytag or Samsung French door in the price range I mentioned?

Busy day for you

Yeah, Samsung is fine for fridges, good news is Samsung's most likely to fail parts are cheap.

I don't like GE, I like everything about the LG, except the compressor. I went to a Fridge training class a few weeks ago, and we did a lot of studiyng on the LG's compressor issues. We non-LG techs are just now allowed to get the linear info. Before they were keeping it hush.

But the problem is bad. Without warranty replacing the compressor in an LG is a little more than replacing a Sub-Zero compressor. That alone tells you what you need to know.

A $12,000 fridge v a $2,000 fridge, same compressor replacement costs.

Yeah I gotta say the build quality of the LG seemed nice. Just went to take a look at them at Lowes. Noted though. I'm going to start looking at Samsung's in that range. I also really want something with an in door ice machine to free up that space in the fridge.
