I gotcha on the part of being part of something. My whole military career was spent as a crewmember on a Bradley, Abrams, and finally M109. But none of those things would get more than about a foot off the ground. The worst thing that could happen if I didn't keep track tension right is we throw a track. Mess on the maintenance of a chopper though and you're day is going to shite.

No. I didn't go into artillery until after I'd come off active duty and had joined the Guard here in Alabama. I went through a two week long artillery MOSQ school at Ft. McClellan around 1998 or so when my armor battalion was being swapped over to artillery.
My actual OSUT (or Basic Training) was for 19Delta at Ft. Knox, KY in the summer of 1988.
