Katrina killed more than 10x the people that Laura did, caused more property damage and was a much bigger storm. My post was about all things considered, not just wind speed. Yes Laura was terrible. So was Camille. But they weren't Katrina.

there is only one right quadrant in a hurricane. if you happen to be in that quadrant well hold on tightly

two if you split it into top and bottom quadrants. Then you have top right and bottom right.

It’s more about the bands than the eye. Usually the bands spread from the eye to the east, so with the bands is mostly rain but wind also. To the west yes, you can often times just 50 miles or less west of the eye if it comes from the south barely even know there’s a storm. Where as 50 miles east more or less gets hammered by bands of rain and wind.

But Katrina was much more about where it hit and, most significantly, the levee failures.

Laura was, directly, a more powerful storm - as far as a wind event, as was Ida.

Katrina was a very powerful storm, that just happened to hit at the most vulnerable spot of SE Louisiana.

Of people are not giving IDA its due. She was a bitch of a storm that knocked power out to ALL of new
Ireland. Grand isle was leveled and Houma looked like a war zone
