Katrina

Taken on 9/2/2005.Footage from an unpressurized Cessna 206 .Forgot all about having this video on my computer. Decided to upload it to youtube. This was taken with an old Sony handicam 8mm so the quality isn't that great but it covers the whole city and levee breaches and fires after the Hurricane.

And it also shows sharing airspace with Airforce 1. There's not very many people can say they did that. We of course had 3 F-16's flanking us and AF1 had 2 following it. We were within 1 mile of AF1 for most of the time.
For those that don't know, civilian air traffic is not allowed to share the same airspace as AF1 within 20 miles. This day was an exception though.

Anyway, AF1 footage starts at the 20:40 mark.

They had 3 fighters on your wings but couldn't scramble any in time for 9/11?

He had a squadron running with him. New Orleans tower was down as well as the tower at the Naval Station in Chalmette. All communications were done directly between us and the fighters. They stayed with us until the plane landed. They knew we were on a photo mission since we filed the flight plan before taking off from BTR. so the fighters had access to that flight plan and ok'd us to fly within the airspace of AF1.
