No, I don’t think so. I think I thought that I wouldn’t put it past the CCP, but that would be awfully reckless of Xi to do such a thing. I did think it was some Chinese national likely in their 20s that thought Xi wanted this that would be the likely culprit, which could have caused WWIII.

If it had been a Chinese national that assassinated him and China defended him? Yes. My main concern was it was a Chinese national that murdered him and Japan wouldn’t take that sitting down in the slightest. But no, I doubt Xi would have ordered the hit himself.

It’s the biggest assassination of my lifetime at least, but at least it was done by a Japanese military man and thus a domestic issue. If it had been done by anyone remotely linked to the Chinese, it would have gotten crazy bad.
