WAFB came to our campus in the early 2000s to interview our principal about why we had class on MLK day…

He was an old hardass and the school board wouldn’t let him do the interview. Which was a smart move tbh

Ended up interviewing a student and he looked like a deer in the headlights

We never had any controversy like that, but we did have that peanut butter incident when I was a junior.

Speaking of old local high school news stories, who remembers when they tried to launch a gay club at McKinley in the late 90s? The students protested outside the school building and had made signs on loose leaf paper like “Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve” and “No Gay Club”. Good times.
