But I have always struggled to rationalize how people thought we were within reason to drop two nukes on these frickers.

It wasn't a retaliatory move. In terms of retaliation, we had already firebombed Japan worse than 10,000 Pearl Harbors. We were in a brutal vicious Pacific war and lost millions of our people. We told them we had bombs capable of annihilating their entire country (which was actually an exaggeration). We gave them the ultimatum. They wouldn't quit. Hell we nuked em once and they still wouldn't quit.
It was not retaliation. It was the best possible way to end the war quickly and with as few casualties ON BOTH SIDES as possible.

No. I'd prefer we not be in wars at all.
Decent troll.

I'm a Missourian. Say what you will about Missourians, but never question our knowledge about Truman, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Mark Twain. We spend more time on those subjects than students in most other states. We also are taught that Third Leg is an uneducated idiot.
If only I had your education, I could start several threads on god and baby's shitting themselves.

They asked for my preference. I gave it to them.

so you're OK with high 7-figures in deaths added to the total?

just because the course is taught in schools doesn't make everyone an expert on the subject, the courses being taught in Japanese schools on the subject are probably quite different than those being taught in Missouri

No. I wouldn't have been okay with that either.

Retaliation is never truly "justified". That's something we tell ourselves at night to help cope with the dead that haunt our dreams.
There is no just war, only a senseless slaughter of boys with more vigor than sense, rushing to fulfill the selfish desires of men with greying hair.
Old men talk about the war. Young men go and die.
Those who speak of payback should hope the price of their own ancestor's atrocities is not visited upon them.
There are no innocents. Men with their blood up are capable of unspeakable horrors when they think no one is looking.
And I speak not to condemn those in that hell of battle, merely to comment on the state of man as it has ever been...capable of selfless mercy, and unenvied cruelty.

But you capitalize Festus. God is a proper noun and thus capitalized.
It's a name, not a descriptor. Now if you said the god God, that would be acceptable.
Little known fact, his middle name is Rudolph.
