As I said, look into the Rape of Nanking. Pretty much their only instructions were to not kill white people that were stationed there, but other than that, go nuts. People were doing batting practice with swords on 4 year old girls, after they were raped of course. There was no system other than to be as brutal as possible. Nazis who witnessed it were disgusted completely by the acts. The Japanese opinions of the Chinese at the time made the Nazis opinion and treatment of the Jews look saintly by comparrison.

I can understand that, but the general population of Japan backed most if not all war efforts so....

No it didn't. The Nazis sadistically tortured Jews, used their babies for target practice, mutilate their genitals, performed bizarre medical experiments, every unspeakable thing you can think of. How on earth can you say one atrocity is worse than the other?

The eye for an eye maxim never ceases to amaze me.

War is ugly, I get it. shite goes down, mistakes are made. But I have always struggled to rationalize how people thought we were within reason to drop two nukes on these frickers.

A land invasion would've prolonged the war by years, and millions more would have died than did in the a-bomb. On both sides. Fact.

The fact that they didn't surrender after the first one was dropped is reason enough IMO. Also, measuring by power, more was dropped on Germany than Japan.

Let's forget about the toxic wasteland of collateral damage and chalk up to saving lives.

Propaganda is a tool of brilliance.

I'm not sure I would call speculation a fact.

The "toxic wasteland of collateral damage" would've been bigger. Are you not paying attention?

really only a drop in the bucket when you consider all of the nuke tests done around the world over the last 70 years.

So we would have dropped more nuclear weapons or bigger ones?

Weird that Europe is not glowing right now,

Tests are done away from population centers.

This was not.

Everyone would have. The Japanese and Russians were both developing nuclear programs

So that makes them less of toxic wastelands? and don't act like Hiroshima is not a thriving city today.

Our firebombing campaign destroyed more real estate and took more lives. Would that have been your preference?

No. I'd prefer we not be in wars at all.
