Yeah its a liability issue with the big national chains. I had an all-wheel drive car and they wouldn't replace a single tire they had to replace all four otherwise it could frick up the differential....according to them and it was their corporate policy.
There's probably no good reason for this, but I can't ever replace 1 tire on a car. Minimum for me is 2. So it's either a full new set when needed or replace a pair if 1 gets too damaged. I have no problem with patching the F out of tires either, unless it's a sidewall issue.
