Build more refineries and the price of gas will drop like a rock. The oil isn’t the issue

True but there are different gravity oils and types that matter materially to refiners

Oil is oil
Oh boy. That could not be more wrong.
These examples of crude are as different as they look. API gravity, TAN, and sulfur levels have huge impacts on their usage.
Just as an example Brent, OPEC basket, and WTI are massively different from a refining POV. This is the reason why we export so much crude while at the same time importing so much, it isn't just to keep the shipping companies happy. Your general ideas were correct, but just missing the fact that all crude isn't the same and only fungible when we are talking about the same commodity like WTI vs WTI or Brent vs Brent etc.

I'm going to need a more dumbed down explanation.
Just think of crawfish pricing and then substitute oil.

Again the USA helping everyone
That oil & gas trader that sits in Houston does not work for the USA, and their bonus is not paid by the USA. They are paid to maximize and optimize and fancy words like that.
Their reward structure is heavily congruent with the global oil & gas market.
If that is your interpretation…‘the USA helping everyone’…
You might need to try a new news channel.
