Weren't people not wanting to strictly blame it on gays, even though that's why it was spreading and why it continues to be a problem in the black gay community?
Similar to Chinese Virus now. If people were just honest and cut the hurt feelings bullshite, they could have jumped ahead of it sooner and saved people's lives.

The real panic was being sentenced to prison. I worked in an ED where the end stage state prisoners were taken. Saw plenty of them flatline. Horrible disease. Probably still scary as f to get sentenced
