So what you're saying is live near your job and Dallas or Houston are fine places to live?
Big city life isn't really for me, but I would live in one of the upscale parts of either city if I was very very wealthy.

Why do people in the OT keep comparing 2 mid sized cities with the 4th and 5th largest metros in the US? It's like comparing Fresno State and the Green Bay Packers

You do what you gotta do, man.
Houston just sounds miserable to me. I honestly would rather live in Atlanta or Birmingham because it's closer to cooler things.

I'm with you... but I wouldn't say miserable, it's just not my flavor or speed... but living in Houston, you really can find anything in the world you want, so it isn't all that bad. It's just the day to day monogamy stuff that felt really plain Jane compared to the way I enjoy living.

Turn on the news any day of the week and somebody got murdered, assaulted, or robbed in Houston NOLA is not an exception. Houston is a nicer place to live though it's awesome.

I'd live in Houston (burbs) over Nola but that's pretty subjective. I hate big cities. They make me feel so damn claustrophobic.
Houston has too many characteristics that I also hate about South LA. It's hot, flat, flood and hurricane prone. When I leave it'll be for a place like Asheville or the Raleigh burbs.

Great comparison right there

Main St area of Grapevine is the tits. If you cannot like that area, you have bad taste.

Yea Houston is great! you can look at a bunch of fat kids in cargo shorts waiting in line to get an autograph from JJ Watt at the Galleria. You can also enjoy some delicious Texas-Mexican eggrolls from the same local shitty restaurant that's on every corner. When you knock off of work at 4pm you can sit in traffic on your daily 2 hr commute back to Katy.

NC/SC cold doesn't bother me. I've lived outside of LA before. Minnesota would be a different story

Oh look, another shite on Texas thread. What's not to like about a great economy, better roads, better public schools. Louisiana. Yay!

I did too for 2-1/2 years for work and it sucked.

Asheville gets really cold at weird times of the year. The LSU/BAMA game day in 2014 there was heavy snow but the same weekend the next year it was 70 degrees.
I have a friend, a fellow poster, who lives there and his in laws who live in the area leave every january and february due to the weather.
