Is there a good online resource for people with flood insurance questions? The fireplace in my house is brick there has wet Sheetrock between the brick and load bearing wall studs about 2-3 feet on each side if the chimney. The only way to get it out is bust the brick, which is going to be very expensive to do and the claims adjuster said they wouldn't pay for it because there is normally no Sheetrock behind the bricks. Surely this is not correct, can anyone here offer advice?

Remove some of the bricks and get photos of the sheet rock behind the brick.

Send the photos to your insurance adjuster.

Tell him that you have the state dept. of insurance on speed dial, and if he doesn't accurately settle your loss that you'll contact them.

Insurance companies hate DOI complaints.

I already sent him pics clearly showing the Sheetrock, told him to come by and verify it and if he had a bore snake camera, we could drill a hole in the studs to see how far back it goes, which is at least a foot. He's telling me they won't pay for it after all that.

This. I'm having the same issues. I talked another adjuster and he told me document and call the hell out of the insurance company and/or state dept. and you will get it settled.

We are having to do the same thing with my mom's fire place. My aunts house also has dry wall behind the brick, so it must be more common than he thinks.

call his supervisor and tell him a complaint to LDI is forthcoming. They hate those complaints more than anything.

The company who I adjusted claims for took these complaints more seriously than any others. Also get contractor bids if possible. (I realize it's tough right now)

Flood insurance I through the NFIP(federal government). Doubt your call to the LDI would do anything.

don't take no for an answer, keep fighting it. Let him know that you will be glad to not replace the sheetrock while you hash this out and will leave to a severe mold issue in the house due to their unwillingness to fix your flood damaged house.
