Flight Question

I'm looking to go to Charlotte in a few weeks and was searching flights from Baton Rouge. I found a direct flight from BR to Charlotte that fits my schedule perfectly for around 480.
In looking at other options for better prices, I searched flights from BT to Greenville Spartenberg, figuring it would give me flights from BR-ATL-GSP. However, the best flight option that popped up was the same flight from BTR to Charlotte that fits my schedule with a brief stop in Charlotte before heading to GSP. But the price was $100.00 cheaper if you booked from BTR-GSP.
I must admit, I don't fly very often, but I just seems odd to me that it would be 100 cheaper to stay on the same plane for an extra leg/flight. Is that normal?
Second, if I wanted to get off in Charlotte, could I just pay for the ticket from BTR to GSP for 100 dollars cheaper, then just de-board the plane in Charlotte?

Yes you can. There's a guy who figured this out awhile back and made a website dedicated to it. There's a name for it.

Yes but your return trip gets cancelled

Flights with more stops tend to be cheaper. Depending on your schedule, it may not be worthwhile to take the extra stop just to save a Benjamin.

It's all about final destinations.
It certainly makes no sense to have more flying and it be cheaper.
It's the Southwest airlines effect. And just some airports just cost more. Those with Southwest tend to be overall cheaper to fly to than those airports that do not have Southwest.
It cares not about the connecting airport.
I think it's a crock of shite that airlines will cancel the rest of your flight if you are beating them at their own stupid game.

Airline fares are sometimes nonsensical.
They are based on routes (i.e. Origination Airport to Terminal Detianation)
Because if this, you can sometimes blunder into deals as you have described but airlines are aware of this and don't like the flying public to take advantage of these loopholes in their pricing schemes.
I know Southwest will take note of a passenger who skips out on an itinerary before the terminal destination. I've heard that they will refuse to sell to habitual skippers.
One obvious issue if you try this tactic is that you better not have any checked luggage.
The luggage that blew up PanAm 108 over Lockerbie was put on the 747 by a passenger who got off that plane at LHR instead of going on to JFK with his luggage. Airlines & TSA take that seriously.

quote:This. When you no show the 2nd flight, they'll label you a terrorist and cancel your return trip. So be prepared to re-book that.

Catch the attention of a poster here named something like "Syracuse tiger"....he is a master of finding cheap flights and has helped a lot of folks with that.
ETA: you may have more luck on the travel board with this.

What you're trying to do is called hidden city ticketing. If you haven't done it before and only do it once or twice, you're more than likely safe. In any case, does this need to be roundtrip or is it a one-way ticket? If its one-way, i'd go ahead and book a one-way to greenville. If its roundtrip, american will cancel your return flights if you don't take the clt-gsp flight on the way there. You could potentially book two one-ways, btr-clt-gsp on AA the way up, then clt-atl(or another vonnecting city)-btr on a different airline the way back. Lastly, how are the flights from new orleans to charlotte? They might be a bit cheaper?

Flights usually drop a lot around this time since school starts back up as well as football. No one travels in late september through early november, i'm ready to see some $100 fares from nola soon

Thanks. What about New York to Greece/Spain deals? You think they should be cheaper too?

We havent seen an international sale in a while so i expect to see one as well. Plus out of nyc you have all the airlines there trying to get your business so fares are normally cheaper than nola
