Just wait until you have kids and car seats and strollers to lug around.

The irony here is that people with carry-ons are literally lugging their luggage around for the duration of the trip. Those who check bags only have to go from the curb to the check-in desk and then from baggage claim to the curb.

Yeah, no. Well, maybe if you're flying to Cabo. But most people who are actually "traveling" are going to be dragging those behemoths over cobblestone streets, up and down hills, up and down staircases in metro stations, shoving them into taxis, etc, etc, etc.

Or they hop in a cab and head from the airport to the hotel.

One time? This seems like a very short, very limited hypothetical trip to justify a checked bag. Is the other 3/4 of the bag filled with cocaine?

I wasn't aware that the checked bag just shows up in my hotel room or back in my bedroom without me lugging it there from the airport.
What kind of excuse is this? I dont know anyone that would prefer to check a bag if it can be a carry on, except old people.

Checking a bag requires me to interact with stupid human beings, and then requires me to trust these stupid human beings to get my bag to my destination, all the while i know my bag will be tossed around enough to eventually damage it.

One of my favorite little guilty traveling pleasures is getting off of a long flight and breezing past all the poor, bleary eyed souls congregating around the baggage carousel for what will easily be the next 45 minutes

The bag getting there is the main issue I worry about. I'm team carry-on but with self tagging of bags and a bag drop, there is really no reason to interact with an airline employee when checking a bag.

Also, do your checked bags not have wheels? They roll all the same.

There are a few locations where you’ll go through hell in the security line if you’re not checking your luggage at the counter.

Manchester, UK in particular seems to want you to unpack and repack everything in the security line whereas they don’t hassle you at all for anything in your checked luggage. If I fly through there I’ll go ahead and check the carryon and bring nothing but my computer and an emergency set of clothes on the airplane with me.

Same with most Chinese airports, I’ll go ahead and check.

In other cases, the decision to check or not to check is just a preference, and is a different case than people grossly overpacking for a 3 day trip.

I pay for nearly all of my flights, and 2+ hours without traffic, risking clusterfricks on the spillway, dealing with and paying more for parking, and dealing with a significantly more busy/difficult airport is absolutely not worth $100 to me.

I could laugh and point at you, but that seems rude.

So why do you think that 90% of people in the central/BR areas fly out of MSY vs BR airport? Surely, your experience must be the standard.

Source? Practically everyone I know who lives in or around Baton Rouge flies out of BTR vastly more often than they do MSY. So again, source?

What’s your source?

Everyone I know that lives from N.LA down to BR flies out of MSY.
