I'm all for disciplining your child, especially if they are acting up and disrespecting their adult teacher but keep it below the belt. The slapping and punching is a tad bit much. And for the staff that just let it happen, they should have stepped in.

ETA: I don't have kids, but when I was a kid, I talked back to my mom one time. That was met with a hairbrush to the face. Not hard enough for injury, but hard enough to remind me who was the boss. I never did that again.
