Worse is any "List". (I.e. 50 Greatest NFL players of the Decade) and each one you have to click "Next" on.
They all do it because each click counts so instead of 1 click, they get 50 if you go through all of them.

It’s one of our weapons against climate change. If every site had to open everything as soon as you visited it would add 25% more carbon to our atmosphere.

I think if some of them advertise they don’t do this or become well known for not doing it, they’d get more clicks in the long run.
