On a recent flight from Love Field to LAX we were flying into a 100mph+ headwind...slowed us down significantly, but don't think it was anything serious...

A sudden headwind would result in unexpected lift. It's a sudden tailwind or downdraft you have to worry about.

The majority of the airports in the world do not have Low Level Wind Shear Alert Systems, do not know if this particular airport did or did not.
