Anyone own one or have any recommendations? Or would you choose gunite? My wife and kids have been asking for one since we bought our house 2 years ago and I'm about to cave and get one. I had heard fiberglass is the way to go.

I have a Fiberglass w/ saltwater chlorinator. Basically put 2-4 bags of salt of salt in a year and don't have to worry about chemicals at all. I used Affordable Pools out of Crowley. They do pools all over the Acadiana area. Talk to Glen, great guy. I priced all options and the only gunite that was equivalent in price was by a company with a questionable reputation.

Does the salt have a rusting effect everything metal around the house? I am about to build and will be using Brandon with Cajun Pools...Good guy with a great product!

No, it does not. Not even salty enough to taste the salt.

I've heard it can be hard on equipment. Heater etc.

I disagree with the other poster. It is definitely enough salt to taste in the water. Not like ocean water, but salty.

I bought a house that had beautiful slate tile as the pool deck and pool/jazuzzi coping and I had the have the coping replaced because the salt water destroyed it. Other than that no real problems

If you can get a pool under 40k you are doing good. FG is slightly cheaper, but gunite is such a nicer pool. Stone coping is a standard on gunite.

I've been hearing to get fiberglass. So is gunite still preferred?

Whichever you choose, put a good fence around it to keep kids out. Cannot stress this enough.

I used to work with Brandon's dad, he is a good guy and does some quality work from what I hear.

I've had both kinds. I put in a fiberglass with Brandon at Cajun Pools one year ago.

FG is cheaper. Gunite will give you more design options... your imagination and money are the only limitations.

Maintenance on FG is easier.

Oh... and don't think the price of the pool is the end of it! Upgrade copping $$$. Water feature $$$. Electrician not included $$$. Custom decking $$$. Re- landscape $$$.

I have a gunite salt water. Put it in about 3 years ago.

I can hardly taste the salt. No equipment shows any sign of rust. I have a pool heater for the hot tub and pool and use it frequently--it is totally clean with no signs of salt erosion or build up.

The tiles on the walls of the pool and the back wall with fountains do get thick white calcium/Lyme build up which requires acid to clean...only issue.

I put about 200-300 lbs. of salt a year in the water--that's it. It is almost maintenance free.

I do not have any experience with fiberglass, so can't help there.

We had a freeform fiberglass saltwater pool from Viking, and loved it.
