The only commonality that I have is that my nickname starts with the first letter as my middle name.
Unfortunately, people assume that my nickname is a derivative, so they call me by what that name would be.

other than at work most people call me by my nickname "Shifter".

I've had several nicknames that were similar in origin. Some variation of my first name combinef with a reference to my youthful face and demeanor. At 44 I'm not as boyish looking as I once was but the names linger on.
I get a lot of Jethro Bodeine as well, which is odd since I have blond hair.

ive had some aquantiances with some guys with some seriously terrible nicknames that everyone calls them

It's about 70/30 real name. Mostly family and work use my real name and a lot of friends use my nickname. People who just know my face usually know me be my real name.

I'm the opposite. Only people who casually know me call me by my real name. I much prefer my nickname.
