You related to any folks in Beaumont? Good buddy of mine's family had some ownership in a plantation in Washington that is now open to the public.

Houmas House has some poorly spaced columns.

LG was my roommate at LSU.

ETA: One of two and one of my best friends while I was down there.

Ruins? That stinks. What happened to the home?

I hate seeing Walnut Ridge in Gonzales, Texas. It could have been such a beautiful home.

My grandmother and his great-grandmother were sisters. My mother and his grandmother are first cousins and are very close. When my grandmother was still alive I would drive her over to Beaumont to visit pretty often. She's no longer with us, and it's been quite a while since I've seen any of them.

Interesting family, to say the least.

Burned a while back...they aren't sure how.

My grandparents lived there for a spell. It is a beautiful property though and we made the ruins look awesome for the wedding with lights and landscaping.

Candyland (Evergreen) is the most preserved Plantation in existence. It's around 37 intact original buildings. Still a privelty owned and operated "farm" as we call them now.

He told me lots of stories. Even his mom and dads deal was pretty "interesting". I talked to him just a few days ago and he seems to be doing pretty good. You friends with him at all?

I think I've met him once or twice. I used to know his dad, uncle, and aunts pretty well. Like I said, it's been a long time. One of the sad things about losing the older generation is they're the glue that holds everyone else together. When they're gone, you start drifting apart.

ETA, yeah, that deal was a trainwreck from what I understand. When you're part of a legal precedent, it's usually not a good thing

Your correct there. I think he is working for his dad now. Oil & Gas stuff and living in Houston.

We had a fraternity party Magnolia Ridge and it was pretty amazing. We would go out there from time to time and drink on weekends and stuff but the party we threw was GOAT status for our group.

For those here that are fascinated by "ruins" - I highly recommend the book above if you haven't seen it already.

Doesn't count since it's in Mississippi and I might be slightly biased, but my families Plantation home is my favorite.
