I really used to enjoy shooting pool and bowling in the LSU Union.

Jack’s Place in Port Allen. One of the Saia family had it. Been there for 100 years. No other correct answer.

Over on the west side in front of where they had that big 9 ball tournament in an old store is where Elvis the night cleanup man lived in his car.

I didn’t know Elvis. The cleanup guy I knew was a middle age black guy named June Bug. Talked and laughed like Morgan Freeman in Driving Miss Daisy.

One night he was hopped up on something (plus drunk as usual) and wanted to fight some other guy in the parking lot. June Bug was thin as a rail. Was pretty funny seeing him dance around Ali style.

It’s really sad what a woman can do to a man. I’m supposed to say miss you JD.

You could. It was open 24/7/365.

They had some cots in the back room. And a private table for high stakes games.

Weren’t any cots back there.
After the second or third day I would sometimes sleep under the middle table. Dark, quiet, not bad. Once I was in a dead sleep and awakened to an enormous clatter. Two college aged couples had come back there to play pool and had just dumped or tossed the rack of balls on the table. You should have seen the looks of shock and horror on their faces when I crawled out from under there.
Only occasionally would there be a private game back there. It was usually used for Knock Poker. Since they said cards were illegal they had a set of dominoes with the card faces and values imprinted on them.
Caution : it was very common to run into two players playing partners, giving them a tremendous advantage and therefore inevitably taking all your money.
For this reason and the fact the dominoes developed scuffs and marks on the backs making it easy to pull the card you wanted the game was discontinued.
Years later they started playing poker with standard cards. Cheating was still rampant.

Dayum that’s crazy. And that’s coming from someone who crashed in some odd places or odd circumstance a lot in the younger days.
