quote:

Rick Moreland, English. He taught the modern criticism class, knew it was difficult material that nobody really wanted to do, and basically just let us have relaxed class discussion. He was much more concerned with actual learning than a letter grade.

It was truly gratifying to get an A in that class. Rick really was awesome, and I so wish I'd have had a chance to take another class with him at the helm.

Always remember his office door not having anything of self-importance on it - just a stick on name tag with "Hello - My Name Is Rick".

Chang - forestry
Some Chinese guy - GIS

The Chinese guy couldn't speak or write English well. He wrote the textbook in Chinese originally, and it was poorly translated to English. He didn't teach at all. Just gave us ArcGIS projects and told us to do them.

Chang is extremely knowledgeable about forestry, lumber production, and local and global commodities markets. Really nice guy and loves V12 Jags.

Favorite: David Johnson
Had him for a couple of EE classes (Linear Systems and one other -- maybe Circuits II). Very approachable, friendly and had a good sense of humor. Knew the material like the back of his hand. Had good after-class stories about bootlegging in Jackson Parish.

Least Favorite: Alan Marshak
Had him for Electronics and the associated lab. Napoleon complex. Rude and abusive to students when they don't know the answer to something. Went on to become department head. Figures.

For EE classes at UNO, I can add this guy named Humin Chen for circuits 1. All he did was write proofs on the board. Didn't understand what questions we were asking most of the time, and when he did, his answers were extremely condescending.

We ended up finishing the whole course curriculum by midterms because he was going too fast. When that happened, he just asked us if we wanted to learn anything else. Probably 80% dropped or failed.

The other guy teaching it was fricking awesome

Favorite: probably Malcolm Richardson or Wayne Parent. Or Rick Blackwood. James Gordon Bennett was up there, too.

Least favorite: Ben Martin

Back in the day my favorite was Dr. Seibling. Can't remember his first name. Taught immunology and pathogenic micrbiology.

Favorites: Dr. Rizzuto, Psychology, beautiful lady and made organizational psych interesting. Dr. Manhein, this lady genuinely loved her career at LSU. She ran the Faces lab at LSU, she was in forensic anthropology but also taught introductory courses as well.
Dr. Emily Elliot made statistics for psychology fun.

Least: dr. Robert chumbley, French literature, he was a great man, but he earned his ph.d from Yale, I always thought I would fail his class but made a B. Toughest class I had at LSU because I had to read, write, and interpret literature in French.
