but I still want to see the data to get to those figures. Seems like an awfully high number.

But kudos to you for backing up your post .

Uh, you originally responded to my post and when I provided evidence you were nowhere to be found.

The figures are there. They kill thousands.

Look up the mountain lion situation in California. Proposition 117 proposed the ban of mountain lion hunting in California in 1990. The anti-hunting crowd won out. Do you think mountain lion hunting stopped? No, but now it's simply hired guns or ranchers with predation problems killing mountain lions in permits issued by the government.

So instead of generating funding for wildlife conservation through the sale of licenses and permits, we are spending money to take the same lions.

Hunting for food is different than killing for sport.

no one kills strickly for food. It is for the sport of the kill....but most people do mostly eat what they kill.

I only do it for the sport. I can go to the grocery store and buy my food for a lot less than I spend to kill it. The food part is a plus but not why I do it.

idk why you got down voted. What you said is a fact.

I actually almost came to blows with a family member of mine last year (my extended family is white trash). I, myself, grew up hunting and have no problem with it if it’s done correctly. I’ve just made the choice to get out of it as I got older.

Anyway, we were discussing some of the recent black bear sightings in Louisiana and how they are being reintroduced. He says that he knew a guy that got a fine because he killed one and proceeded to talk about what a “shame” it was. Not a shame that the bear was killed, but a shame that his friend got a huge fine for it.

He then decided to go into great detail about how when you see one, you should shoot it with a .22 in the gut so that the would has time to get infected and the bear can go die off in the woods and you won’t be held responsible.

My wife and I both wanted to kick his fricking arse. I called him about every synonymous name for white trash I could think of. He’s about 5’3 and chubby. I’m pretty sure my wife could have kicked his arse. Perfect example of an insecure piece of shite killing for fun.

Of course not, but to say

It is for the sport of the kill

Is bullshite as well. The primary reason I hunt is for the meat. It's not the only reason, but is the main reason.

If i killed critters for food it would cost me about 500 bucks a pound! LOL. Hunters like killing shite. I do it because it's legal and fun. I don't waste any meat, (unless it's a nuisance animal that doesn't taste good like coon, pig, coyote, armadillo, possum, snake, bobcat etc) but i definitely can't say i hunt for food.

Exactly the kind of sentiment that has the antis all over trying to ban it.

Killing animals is part of it, and obviously if one cannot bring themselves to kill, they aren't going to hunt. But there is a certain amount of reverance one has to have for the animal he hunts. If he doesn't, he's no better than a murderer.

I enjoy hunting for 2 reasons: it's an opportunity to be a part of the natural world (as opposed to apart from it, like the majority of society today), and to bring some of it home to share with friends and family in the form of meat. Killing is part of that, but I don't necessarily "enjoy" it. You are taking a life. There is something sociopathic about getting enjoyment out of killing something. It should be a more complex emotion that simple enjoyment.
