Half of them were in the bottom half of their class.
Not true.
The bottom of the class didnt graduate.
My wife's class started about 200 students, finished with 170ish.
Keep in mind undergrad is a weed out for people to even apply to med school, the admissions board is a second weed out.
So the top of the top even make it to med school

I’ve been in director level positions responsible for surgery departments and free standing surgery centers for 20 years. I’ve got news for you. Every doctor’s skill set is different. It’s equally science and art. Some are better than others. There’s a reason every employee in the department uses a specific orthopod, or specific general surgeon or whatever when they or a family member need surgery.

When I first started getting sick in late July 2016 I went to my local doctor. I felt like I was getting a chest cold. First they told me I had asthma and gave me an inhaler. I went back a week later because the inhaler didn’t have any effect. This time he told me I had pneumonia. He put me on steroids and some other pills. I go back two week later because I’m almost out of meds, my breathing is getting harder, and I’m starting to see swelling, especially in my lower legs. They give me more meds and tell me I need to start walking at least two miles every day. Two week later I’m back, this time at the local ER when the swelling in my legs is so bad I can’t put on my boots and I can barely breath. They give me more steroids and tell me to keep exercising. So here I am in the hottest part of summer walking at least two miles a day.
This goes on from late July, multiple visits to the dr office and ER until the first week of November when I encounter a coworker who was alarmed at my appearance and worsening condition. He advised I see a cardiologist. Two days later I’m at the cardiologist and they put me in the hospital and inform me I’m in stage 4 congestive heart failure. I never had asthma or pneumonia. The idiot local doctors were just too stupid to recognize the blatant symptoms of congestive heart failure. Between July & November I was seen by three different doctors between the local office and ER.
What’s funny is on my second or third day in the hospital waiting for open heart surgery I get a call from my local dr saying some of my heart enzymes looked out of wack on my last blood sample and they’d like for me to come back in to see them. They could make me an appointment for the following week.

Safe to assume that society looks at doctor’s as walking lawsuits these days so most physicians will either over do the testing or pass you onto a specialist so they don’t have to worry about taking a hit to their malpractice insurance.

Dude, what ER did you go to and did you see an NP or something? Your story would have any ER MD concerned about CHF or PE.

Some one finished bottom of the class.
And if you watch these shows like "Monsters inside me", you would see how incompetent many Doctors are, including specialists.
It's scary as frick. Pray to stay 100% healthy. Before they misdiagnose you, or try to get you hooked on some pain killers.
