No one is perfect at their job. Doctors make mistakes too. The difference is that patients expect Doctors to be perfect and when they're not, the three letter S word gets involved. It's common in today's society which is pathetic.

Agreed, but you aren’t having an obstructed biliary tract/gallstone pancreatitis with normal LFTs and normal lipase. If a provider sees someone with RUQ and/or epigastric pain and orders an US but doesn’t order these labs then he/she’s an idiot.

You could conceivably have normal labs and obstructed bile duct but the vast majority of patients don’t come get seen right when the pain starts so the lab abnormalities should be seen.

It’s not solely about making money. There are government set parameters we have to follow and hoops we have to jump thru. When we spend too much time with one patient another is having to wait and these patients tend to file complaints which affects patient satisfaction scores and reimbursement. This gets admin pissed and they threaten your job. So don’t assume it’s because the doctor is a greedy quack. It’s the nature of healthcare in this country.
Time spent does not always equal better care. This is why some are pushing the NPs as being better care providers. Would you rather have an NP that holds your hand and cries with you or an MD that recognizes what’s going on quickly and starts treatment but isn’t in the room the entire time?

I can guarantee you that if it’s you or your child laying on the table dying you would rather have an ER trained MD making decisions than an empathetic NP who got their degree online.

Lol. What?

What did you retire from? Housekeeping? You have no clue what you’re talking about. Let me guess, you’re a retired nurse? Explains everything.
NPs are the best!! Fire all doctors because they “rip out femoral arteries.” Good grief.

I’m getting a full on second opinion for my son. Took him to a trainer who was concerned about the location of his worst pain. Said he needs to ensure the clavicle is not broken before he does anything. Going to see another Orthopedic tomorrow.

My parents won’t hear of a second opinion, these are life long friends and they simply won’t have it.

It’s hard to know where negligence lies with this stuff. My mom wouldn’t have sued even if missing the diagnosis killed my father. Nothing could be worse than what my mom’s suffering and she would never think of suing. Hell, these are STILL their Dr.s.

I was a nurse that took care of a patient that happened to. Remember that so well, several people attempting to hold pressure with blood all the way to nurses station. This happened in the early 80's with IABP catheter that was sutured to femoral artery in surgery so that they could get this lady off bypass, normally IABP catheters are placed in Cath Lab not in the OR durning surgery. That would not happen today.... wonder who you are?

While I should be offended by this thread, I can't help but how every medical thread gets spun to shite on nurses, PAs, CRNAs or any midlevel for that matter.
The OT never disappoints.

Government gets ever more involved in health care, dictates prices and payments that have no bearing on market rates, and increases the overhead every year for every business?

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you that fewer and lower quality people are getting involved in picking up the slack demand in health care each year.

Next you'll tell me that Medicare for All is going to drive doctors into retirement.

We aren’t shitting on them. People are propping them up to be equal to or better than MDs and that just isn’t true. Those of us who work in the medical field know this.

Yup. These people are the most undertrained, ignorant yet self confident group in healthcare. It’s downright scary...and they want to practice autonomously

IMO they have no place in acute care medicine. Especially not unsupervised. Coughs and colds only. Or specialized clinics such as ortho, derm, etc. When providers don’t know what they don’t know that’s when people get hurt, or worse. CMGs push mid levels because they are cheaper but if you are content with your family member going to an emergency room and seeing a PA or NP instead of a doctor you are sorely mistaken.
