I understand the thought process. Completely. Still doesn’t mean I find the enormous hurdles they jump to make sure they nail you to the wall

Lawyers and muh free market won't ever achieve a reasonable result in this area. Eventually we'll see anti-testing laws become more prevalent, and that's good.

The free market is an effective price-setting mechanism. It sucks as an answer to a lot of other questions.

FYI, DISA does not own testing labs. They do designate which lab will test which specimens.

I think I'd rather mow lawns than work some oil industry job anyway, assuming I'd planned ahead and budgeted around that.

Yeah, they contract with local labs so your piss isn't travelling cross-country.

Plenty jobs available dumping garbage cans into the back of trucks.

Tell buddy to stay off of drugs.

Maybe he can work his way up to garbage truck driver some day.

I worked on a job that used DISA for drug screening. Their tests suck because I smoked a joint 4 days before I got a random drug test. I was terrified that I was going to lose my job because I have 2 kids and a wife to take care of, house and car notes to pay for, and all the other damn bills I have to pay. Ended up passing the test and went home and lit up another joint to celebrate

Most DISA urine specimens are processed in Kansas. Hair in Colorado. Not hardy any local labs left. One in Texas (Houston) and one in Louisiana (Gretna)

Yeah most are just local collection sites. None where we are use urine samples. We do breathalyzer, oral swab and hair follicle.

What was he positive for? Was it a screen or confirmatory drug test?

My concern with DISA is that they only ever collected an “A” sample and no “B” sample. If the lab tech messes up and calls me “bad”, there’s no back up.

[quote]I understand the reasoning behind drug testing, but all of this is goddamn ridiculous. [/quote

Is it that hard to not do illegal drugs while knowing you will be tested?

No sir. There is always enough for a second test. The whole split specimen process dates back to the beginning of DOT testing. Non-DOT testing never used splits. You can still have the original specimen retested at another lab. BTW, DISA has always required plenty of split specimen collections. All pipeline, aviation, rail, coast guard, highway workers, and DOT drives have their specimens split.

Seems like DISA sharing info with any other corporation would be a violation of medical privacy rights.

Plenty of jobs available that only screen when you are made an offer. Legally in some states they can't make you take a drug test until an offer has been made.

I hate DISA and drug testing in general. As long as you're not high on the job, I don't really care what you do in your personal time and its nobody else's business either. It's an invasion of privacy and 9/10 times people usually just fail for weed since it stays in your system for a long period of time (compared to other substances)

I have too much to lose, so I don't do drugs of any kind since I work in an industry that randoms through DISA, but the whole system is a bunch of bullshite. I'd be happy if I could just smoke every now and then and not have to worry about losing my livelihood, or god forbid I hang out with some of my friends who smoke and have to be paranoid when I go in to piss that I breathed in too much 2nd hand smoke.
