I've heard a lot of good things about the Ram, but I like the looks of the Ford better. Of course, looks can be deceiving.

That is false. You can gladly go buy an XL F150 and have a more than "functional" truck at a pretty decent price. People choose to buy XLTs and Lariats

SLT has heated seats standard, not heated/cooled, but it is an option to get both. The sunroof can be had in either configuration.

I'm currently debating the same vehicle choice, and I'm having trouble making the decision as well.

I agree that the Ford is the best looking truck on the market. I had a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9L and 321 rear end that I put over 100,000 miles on and a Durango that I put 120,000 on. Never had a burp out of either but there was a time that the 5.9L was spinning the main bearing at around 40,000 miles. Caveat emptor.

Do yourself a favor and get the chevy Silverado fully loaded or the Gmc and forget about the Ford. I had to put airbags on my fricking Ford to make it tow the correct weight and then it road like shite.

I went with a 2016 Sierra SLT All Terrain that a local dealer had the 20% discount on. I didn't test drive a ford but the Sierra drives great and gets good mileage.

I have a gas burning 2500 Chevy right now and it hauls fine and is a lot quieter than the last three diesels I had. I just wanted something quieter but who knows might get a diesel next. I've had several General Motors and Ford and like them both. All things pretty close to equal it's not worth 10k more.i had a 350 king ranch that was a beast but a democrat in a Volvo took that one from me.

Depends on what you're hauling of course.

But, most importantly to me at least, you start the countdown on gas engines once past 100k. I have a diesel at 400k and it'll rip a gas powered truck in half. Gas is just too inefficient and too many moving parts on most V-6 and V-8 platforms.

And the noise doesn't matter to me. Actually I like the noise. Reminds me that it's a machine and needs to be monitored and maintained, rather than being whisper quiet like some isolation tank.

Do you do mostly road miles on your truck? I ask because I don't think I could make a frame last 400,000 on site.

No. I do know it has the most torque of any 1/2 ton on the market. I've put 12k miles on it with probably 8k pulling a loaded trailer behind it. 30 mpg light truck & 18 mpg pulling around 3k on a 14ft tandem axe trailer.

34 mpg on cruise @ 57 mph

Are you seeing the big differences in pricing between the Ford and GMC? The GMC sales guy says GMC is allocating a certain number of trucks/month with 20% off the supplier price. It's knocking off over $10k.

GMC (GM) or Ford.

One of those companies took bailout money and one of them didn't. Easy decision for me.

I believe it's a year end incentive. I'm looking at both used and new, and even in the used market, the ford trucks seem more expensive.

Problem with both of them is that there are so many different "packages" within each trim level that comparing apples to apples is damn near impossible.

I've got a 15' sierra slt. No sunroof, but does have heated and cooled seats. First truck I've ever owned and love the space. There are like 4 places to put water bottles within arms reach. There are also like 7 outlets to plug electric devices in.

I think the problem is that you're limiting your dealer search. Get on cars.com and search for the exact Ford you want within 200 miles (or 500 like I do). I am willing to bet a dollar you'll come out with a much smaller price difference. Mac Haik in Houston routinely has $10k off Lariat 150s.

If that doesn't help narrow the gap I'd get the GMC. With the all terrain package it doesn't look half bad.

I'm not a dodge guy either. King ranch 3/4 4x4 & king ranch 1 ton 4x4 before the dodge ecodiesel. Price of oil down & paying for my own diesel now. Badass 1/2 ton truck.

anyone know any good resources to check out real towing performance and capacities of these trucks? The Ford salesman is telling me it will tow 12000 lbs but when I got home, I looked up the specs and it says 9100 lbs, which is the same as the GMC.
